Cleansing

I suggest washing your hair 1-2 times a week always using a safe shampoo and conditioner that is recommended by me.

Before washing make sure to brush hair thoroughly and always be mindful of supporting the top of the wefts with your hand so damage can be avoided. Also brushing up to the weft line is important to prevent matting. If you have multiple rows, it is very important to separate and wash inbetween rows using your fingers. If you feel the need to wash more often you can braid your extension hair out of the way and just wash the top of your head or hairline. It is very helpful to place conditioner only below the ears and front hairline pieces to prevent build up on the extension wefts. While conditioner is in your hair, brush through the ends to saturate well. It is also recommended to use a mask regularly as the extension hair needs to be moisturized frequently to prolong the life of the hair.

Key points

*Using a wet brush is very helpful in brushing through your extension hair dry and wet.

*Always use shampoo and conditioner that is sulfate, paraben and silicone free.

*Avoid over washing and deep condition regularly.

*NEVER rub your hair together, instead using a downward motion work through to wash and condition.

*Always support the weft line when brushing.

Drying

Gently squeeze excess water from hair with a microfiber towel making sure NEVER to rub hair together. Apply leave in conditioner and brush through, apply heat protectant and blowdry, always in a downward motion. NEVER sleep with wet hair. It can cause matting, swelling and molding of the wefts. At a minimum the hairline needs to be dried.

Key points

*Never rub your hair while drying, only squeeze.

*Avoid damage to wefts by always drying weft lines, ALWAYS.

*Always use a heat protectant for longevity of your investment.

Styling

You can use heat tools, but always use a heat protectant as heat will naturally dry hair out and we need the extension hair to keep as much moisture as possible for longevity. You can use volumizing (on top of natural hair), texture sprays, and hairspray as desired. Using recommended brands is a good idea in maintaing longevity of your extensions. Applying a moisturizing serum from the weft line to the ends multiple times a day is one of the best things you can do to keep your hair looking and feeling great.

Key points

*Heat temperature no higher than 350

*Always use a heat protectant, this also protects your color.

*Use moisturizing serum multiple times a day.

*Brush often.

Sleeping

I recommend braiding your hair at night after brushing and applying serum. You can wear in a loose top bun or low bun as well. Using a scrunchy prevents breakage as well as a satin pillow case.

Key points

*Braid hair off to the sides or put into top bun.

*Use a satin pillow case.

*Brush thoroughly and apply serum.

Swimming

While you can swim with extensions there are some things to be aware of. Minerals in pool water can affect the color of your hair extensions especially the lighter the hair is. With a little prep this can be avoided.

Wet your hair and put conditioner, either leave in or a mask. Secure in a braid or bubble braid. After swimming brush, wash and condition.

Key points

*Wet your hair then generously apply a mask preferably or leave in conditioner.

*Bubble braids are best for salt water, keep the mini bands close about 1 1/2" apart.

*After swimming wash, condition and dry.

Sunscreen /  Tanning

Beware of sunscreens, they contain a ingredient (Avobenzone) that can turn your extension hair orange/pink. It is a chemical reaction, so it is not always reversable. I recommend the following brands.

*Goldie Locks

*Bare Republic Mineral

*Blue Lizard Mineral

Self tanners will cause discoloration of the wefts as well. If you self/spray tan, please keep your hair up off of your skin until your body has been washed a minimum of 2x's after tan has been applied.

Sunlight can also cause discoloration. If you are spending prolonged time in the sun, I recommend you tie your hair away from sunlight and cover with a large hat.

Blonde extensions can be more susceptible to this.
